Individuals who are coping with asthma understand that it can be very difficult at times. The condition itself is stressful and makes daily living challenging more often than not. So, how can an individual with asthma cope when they feel upset, depressed, or completely frustrated? In addition, how do children manage to control their asthma through the use of an inhaler if other children ridicule them? There are many different emotions that can result from having asthma. Because of this learning to cope with asthma is very important.

Keep in mind, however, that if you have asthma or someone that you love has asthma it does not have to limit one’s life. If you feel helpless or anxious over having asthma then you will want to follow the following suggestions to help you cope and live with asthma.

First, you need to determine what triggers your asthma symptoms. When you do this then you know what can cause an asthma attack and you are more in control and can avoid these things. In addition to identifying your asthma triggers you will need to take your medication and keep your asthma under control. Doing this will reduce your anxiety and you will feel better for sure!

Create a list of things to do. This will help you accomplish all of the things that you need to yet you won’t feel as if your plate is too full and that you cannot possibly handle everything. When you accomplish your daily goals consider rewarding yourself.

Overexertion can make your asthma symptoms worse, which is the last thing you want to do. So, in order to keep your asthma in check you will want to take one thing at a time. Make sure you take a break when you are feeling winded and avoid anything that might make your asthma symptoms worse.

Support groups are another option that will help you get your feelings and emotions about asthma under control. The Internet has many different chat rooms that are dedicated to asthma sufferers and more than likely there is a support group in your area. Talking to others who suffer from asthma is important because it can help you feel as if you are not alone. Not to mention you can learn from one another, offer tips and suggestions, and develop new friends at the same time.

Another important thing to keep in mind is how to treat children with asthma. Kids want to do everything and can quickly become depressed or sad when constantly told they can’t do certain things because of their asthma. So, make a list of all the things your child can do and encourage him to do those. It is important to support your child and make him feel as if he can accomplish anything despite his asthma.
